An easy loop around the beautiful man-made Lanark Loch. There is a large play park and other activities for the kids as well as toilet facilities and a kiosk (seasonal) beside the car park. The footpath around the loch is ideal for bikes and buggies and you can also reach Lanark Moor Cycle Trail from here.

WALK REPORT: 3rd June 2016

I had originally thought about going to New Lanark and doing the Falls of Clyde walk, but while planning a route on my mobile mapping app I stumbled across Lanark Loch and it caught my attention. At only 1 mile around, I opted to check it out: firstly because I am always interested in finding new places and secondly because I was already going to be climbing Tinto Hill in the morning so it was far more realistic that I would be able to fit this in afterwards en route home 🙂   I am glad I did and I would definitely come back here with my family for a day out.

Being a warm day the whole area was busy with people out enjoying the sunshine. It appears to be a popular place for the locals to go jogging, walk the dog and let the kids burn off some energy. With the surface being tarmac and flat all the way around it is a very easy walk. I sat on one of the benches at the far end of the loch to have my lunch and found it so peaceful. I noticed a lot of splashing coming from the reeds: I overheard two men taking a great interest in this and discussing the shoals of fish which appeared to be flapping around in the reeds. I later found out that the loch is stocked with a variety of fish including carp and pike and if you google ‘fish in lanark loch‘ you will see photos of enormous (in my opinion!) fish people have caught here! If I had realised they were so big I would probably have gone for a closer look!
