The colour of the trees...... the quirky uneven footpath meandering through the forest..... the sound of the falls long before being able to see them.... the purpose-built suspension bridge affording uninterrupted views of the gushing torrent that is Rogie Falls..... There was much to love about this walk! A wonderful circular forestry walk taking in Rogie Falls on the Black Water river near the village of Contin. I recommend doing this route in autumn to experience the vast array of colours! Alternatively, go in August-September for a chance to see salmon leaping upstream.

Rogie Falls

WALK REPORT: 2ND NOVEMBER 2018

The colour of the trees…… the quirky uneven footpath meandering through the forest….. the sound of the falls long before being able to see them…. the purpose-built suspension bridge affording uninterrupted views of the gushing torrent that is Rogie Falls….. There was much to love about this walk!

It may have been super short in distance at less than a mile, but we found this walk to offer a lot of variety and ‘oh wow’ moments.  To be honest, I was in my element – snap happy! Despite being early November and fairly late in the day, there were lots of other visitors; a testament to the beauty of these easily-accessible forestry walks. There was a good sized car park complete with interpretation boards and toilets (closed for the winter during our visit!) I will let the photos speak for themselves….

Being the height of autumn, the colours in the trees made this a photographer’s paradise

Black Water in autumn. The calm before the…… falls!

The path was very ‘au natural’ – which I liked – with lots of tree roots, rocks etc to negotiate. Quirky and fun, kids would love it!

This brilliant suspension bridge allowed us to walk right out in front of the falls for an uninterrupted view. The extension visible on the far side lets you look into the salmon ladder – we didn’t see any but were a little late in the year for them.
