If you’re anything like me, come Boxing Day cabin fever is setting in and you NEED to get out a walk. Here are my top picks for you!
BEST FOR….. WEE HILLS
CORNISH HILL – AYRSHIRE (3.4 miles)
A brilliant and fairly easy circular walk from the Stinchar Bridge to the top of Cornish Hill, returning via the secluded and peaceful Cornish Loch.
WEST LOMOND – FIFE (4.7 miles)
Climb up to the highest point in Fife on this incredibly scenic circular walk.
DUMGOYNE – CAMPSIES (2.6 miles)
It may be a small hill at 427m (1401ft), but it certainly packs a punch and makes for a very rewarding climb!
BEST FOR….. WATERFALLS
ROGIE FALLS – HIGHLANDS (0.9 miles)
A wonderful circular forestry walk taking in Rogie Falls on the Black Water river near the village of Contin.
NESS GLEN – AYRSHIRE (1.8 miles)
An astonishingly beautiful short walk through a deep wooded glen
LADY HUNTER BLAIRS WALK – AYRSHIRE (2 miles)
One of those hidden gems Ayrshire has to offer!
BEST FOR…… A WANDER THROUGH THE WOODS
AYR GORGE – AYRSHIRE (1.5 or 3 mile options)
The ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Scottish Wildlife Trust Ayrshire
CATRINE TO SORN – AYRSHRIE (4.6 miles)
Following the River Ayr Way along a pleasant woodland trail to Sorn, you will walk through the Catrine Voes and Woodlands Local Nature Reserve and past the historical Catrine Weir.
RED SQUIRREL TRAIL, DEVILLA – FIFE (1.7 miles)
Take a short walk around this peaceful forest between Kincardine and Dunfermline.
BEST FOR…. LOCHS
LOCH MORLICH – CAIRNGORMS (3.9 miles)
With the highest beach in Britain on it’s shores, Loch Morlich provides a tranquil and easy 4 mile circular route.
LOCH THOM – INVERCLYDE (5.4 miles)
Situated in the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, this circular walk let’s you see the loch from every angle.
BEST FOR…. BLOWING THE COBWEBS AWAY
ARDROSSSAN T0 PORTENCROSS – AYRSHIRE (6.5 miles)
Plenty of beach-walking and the potential for some incredible views across the Firth of Clyde to Arran
SHORE ROAD – FIFE (2.8 or 4 mile options)
The Shore Road runs along the Firth of Forth and on a clear day you will be able to make out the illustrious skyline of the Grangemouth Refinery.
TROON BALLAST BANK (2 miles)
This walk is a little different and you will be treated to spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde on a clear day.
Some great ideas here. Since I started following you for ideas on where to take the kids walking, we’ve discovered Ness Glen and Lady Blair Hunter walk, to name but two! Thank you!
