Burns Day Walk in Alloway

Explore the Birthplace of Scotland’s National Bard

Sunday 25th January 2026 | 1.15pm - 3.15pm | £22 per person | Limited to 15 places

Step into the world of Robert Burns on the very day Scotland celebrates his life and legacy. Join professional walking guide Gillian’s Walks for a special two-hour tour through the charming village of Alloway – the birthplace of Scotland’s most famous poet.

This 5km walk will bring you face-to-face with some of Burns’ most iconic landmarks: the haunting ruins of the Auld Kirk, the graceful Brig o’ Doon, the Burns Monument, and the thatched cottage where he was born. We’ll follow the Poet’s Path, a traffic-free walkway lined with sculptures inspired by his verses, and discover the colourful Alloway Railway Tunnel murals which reimagine his work for the modern day.

Along the way, you’ll hear stories that connect these places to Burns’ life and writing, as well as insights into the heritage and hidden corners of Alloway from a guide who knows Ayrshire’s walking routes inside out. The walk begins outside the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, which has an excellent museum, café and gift shop well worth visiting beforehand (museum entry not included; free for NTS members).

Our walk will finish around 3.15pm inside the Alloway Railway Tunnel where there is a  special bonus for everyone who is booked on this walk! The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra will be playing some tunes in the tunnel and leading some ceilidh dances as part of a separate ‘A Jaunt and a Jig’ tour. We have been invited to join in with some dances or simply enjoy watching the event, listening to the music and taking in the unique ambience. There is no extra charge for this, but the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra will have donation buckets if you want to make a donation.

Spaces on this Burns Day Walk are limited to just 15, ensuring a relaxed and friendly experience.

This is a unique opportunity to celebrate Burns’ birthday in the very place it all began. Book your place below!
